Sesimbra Castel

Sesimbra Castel

Sesimbra Castel stands above the fishing village and its bay. Dates from the 12th century and visitors have to climb high to get the stunning view over Sesimbra and its coastline. With a Romanesque style, is commonly called “Castle of the Moors”. Part of the castle was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake, but later in 1930, it was recovered. Now, the Castel is in a good shape and with some original elements still standing. Such as the church of Nossa Senhora do Castelo. A baroque style church, with an impressive interior covered in blue tiles. Here you can also contemplate the Medieval walls and citadel. Due to its location, the castle has also an incredible viewpoint. Contemplate Tejo and Sado river estuaries. Enjoy the view over the bay, Tróia peninsula,  Arrábida hills, and of course, the impressive Cape Espichel. It is unique. The perfect photo spot that you will love to discover.
